Worth a Read, Represent.Us

USA Today
(on the front page!), The New York Times, and the Chicago Sun Times have all covered our members’ fight against big money in the states in the week since I last emailed you.

Suddenly, the entire nation is watching.

All three articles describe how these statewide campaigns pave the way to national victory. So of course, billionaire-funded lobbyists are already spending big to take us down. They’re grasping to keep their monopoly on political power.

The single best way to counter millions of opposition dollars is with thousands of supportive voices. Thousands of Represent.Us members have already volunteered to talk with voters about fixing our broken political system. Will you be one of them?

Sign up here to add your voice when it’s needed most. It’s easy. Your voice makes a HUGE difference and it feels great to know you’re doing your part for the movement and the country.

Make no mistake: This fight matters to all Americans. If you have any doubt about that, read the articles linked at the top of this email. So we’re asking every Represent.Us member, no matter where you live, to be part of the victory.

Sign up here to be an on-call volunteer. We’ll call on you at key moments in the campaigns, and you’ll add your voice when it matters most.

One of our billionaire-opponent’s lobbyists is quoted as saying if it can happen in one state, “it can happen in 10 or 20 other states.” Funny – he meant it as a warning. But when I read those words, I’m filled with hope.

Let’s stand together and win together.

– Josh

Guiding Principles

We all have something to offer: In our
“sharing economy” we value everyone’s time equally.

We redefine work: We value work that the
market doesn’t. Everyone benefits when we raise healthy children, build
strong families, revitalize neighborhoods, live sustainable, and foster
social justice.

Reciprocity: Helping is a two way street.
We ask, “How can we help each other build the world we all want to live
in?”

Social Networks: We need each other.
Alone, we are limited in what we can achieve. When we help each other,
we reweave communities of support, strength and trust.

Respect: We respect where people are now,
in this moment. Everyone matters, has something to offer as well as
unmet needs.

Hi Valued Community Member,

Time Banking is a way for people to help others in their community and be rewarded for it – in time. People use the Time Bank to re-build a sense of community and belonging. Neighbors (co-worker, etc.) get to know one another, find inspiration, have fun, and strengthen their communities.

The Anti-Corruption Act

politics_4b_t.jpg

Hi,

The American Anti-Corruption Act is model legislation that sets a standard for city, state and federal laws that prevent money from corrupting American government. It fundamentally reshapes the rules of American politics and restores the people as the most important stakeholders in our political system. An Anti-Corruption Act (see why) has three primary outcomes:

  • Stop political bribery so special interests can’t use job offers and donations to influence politicians.
  • End secret money so people know who’s buying political power.
  • Give voters a stronger voice by changing how elections are funded.

Represent.Us is building a movement (see the plan) to pass Anti-Corruption Acts in cities, states, and federally. Each Act is uniquely tailored to meet the needs of locales across the country.
